Is it possible that what you believe about yourself can affect your success or failure? Yes, it’s true! Your mindset can play a huge role in determining your success and what you can achieve. What is mindset? Mindset refers to two ways of thinking. Fixed or growth mindset.

Change your mindset, change your life.

What is Mindset

Your mindset is made up of thoughts and beliefs that you have been gathering all of your life. It is an accumulation of your upbringing, circumstances, situations, and experiences. It shapes your thoughts, habits, and beliefs about yourself and those around you.

Mindset refers to whether or not you believe qualities such as intelligence and talent are fixed or changeable traits.

If you have a fixed mindset, it means that you believe those qualities are what you’re born with. They’re fixed and cannot be changed. Healthcare professionals with a fixed mindset feel they can no longer grow in their careers.

If you have a growth mindset, you believe those abilities can be developed and strengthened. All that is needed is commitment and hard work.  Professionals with a growth mindset have a love of learning and believe they can grow and learn and achieve more.

The mindset you have now has developed from several things in your life. It’s based on experiences, environment, and education.  Ideas and beliefs are absorbed from the people who have been around you all your life, especially those who are close to you.

It is human nature to monitor and interpret events to reinforce or modify the world as you understand it. You also use this information to monitor your own internal thoughts about yourself.

Your mindset tells you how to interpret and react to what’s happening around you. If you have a positive mindset, you will be able to work through challenges. You’ll have a growth mindset where you’ll continue to learn and won’t put limits on what you can accomplish.

If you have a limiting or fixed mindset, and you face a challenge that you can’t conquer the first time you try, you’ll give up and not keep trying. Your beliefs have made you think that there is no option to keep trying.

How Can Changing Your Mindset Change Your Life?

Mindset shows itself by the way you talk to yourself in your mind. If you notice that you speak to yourself with a limiting belief about if you can do a certain thing, then you can change that way of thinking which is what can change your life.

If you start a business and something challenging comes up, you might ask yourself, “Are you sure you can do this?” or “Maybe I don’t have the talent to write a sales page!” or “What if you fail at this business. You’ll be a total failure.”

When you think like that you will give up after one failure and not keep trying to overcome setbacks or obstacles in your business. You may even compare yourself with someone who is successful in business and tell yourself you’ll never make it as they have. You’re just not talented enough.

That is a fixed mindset. Where you think it’s impossible to change how you do things.

A growth mindset never gives up trying. Those challenges are only a part of the journey to success and you embrace each one. Some healthcare professionals are lifelong learners. And some don’t see the need to keep learning.

So How Do You Change Your Mindset?

One way to change your mindset is to make personal development a priority for yourself. It can be challenging to work on yourself in your busy life as a healthcare provider. Sometimes it may seem like your workday never ends. But you don’t want to go through burnout either.Take small steps to manage your stress and focus on your personal development.

Take small steps to manage your stress and focus on your personal development.

You can try yoga, meditating or self-inquiry to change your thoughts into a growth mindset. Take the steps you need to push through a difficult day with patients. If you failed to help a certain patient, then with a growth mindset, you’ll figure out what went wrong and you’ll want to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

If you failed at something you won’t write yourself off when you have a growth mindset. You’ll be able to step out of your comfort zone too.

Change is an opportunity for growth in your healthcare practice and personal life. Changing from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset will help how you interpret the events that happen in your profession.

With a growth mindset, it’s easier to think of healthier attributions and appraisals for those things that happen to you. A growth mindset can help if you’ve had to cope with a medical error. It can be devastating to go through a medical error, but you have to know everyone makes mistakes.

A good healthcare professional will learn from their mistakes. It’s not that they never will make a mistake.

Change Your Self-Talk

How you talk to yourself reflects the type of mindset you have. If you say you’re not good enough to achieve your dreams, then that will become your reality. This mindset will keep you from living the life you want and creating the type of career you’ve always wanted as a healthcare professional.

This might sound “cliche” but if you tell yourself “You can do this!” it helps to change your negative talk to positive thoughts that will inspire you to reach your goals.

Change Your Language

No, I don’t mean you have to learn a new language, but that is a good thing too! What this really means is change the way you talk to other people about your business and the work you do and how you talk about yourself.

Don’t say things like, “I’m always like this” or “I can’t ever get ahead” or “I’ll never be able to grow my business because I can’t do this or that”.

If you want to change to a growth mindset, change these thoughts and phrases into more positive ones. And talk to other people about the accomplishments you made in how you grew your expertise in the area of health care service you do. Maybe you took a specific course to learn about a specific area in your healthcare profession and now you can help even more people.

That’s a great accomplishment.

Talk about all the things that are going well and avoid complaining and talking about your problems all day! Complaining is hard to listen to after awhile!

What is mindset? Mindset is everything! Your mindset can mean the difference between just surviving or thriving. Becoming aware of how your mindset can hold you back from living the life you want, you can begin to make necessary adjustments to how you think, act, and speak about yourself and those around you.

You don’t have to tackle it on your own, either. Reach out to someone for help, take a course, or find a book that can direct you. It may seem difficult, but remind yourself of all the difficult things you have overcome in your life up to this point.
